What are Lab-Grown Diamonds?

Lab-grown Diamonds, also known as man-made diamonds, are created using extreme pressure and heat inside a machine rather than the bowels of the Earth. This process allows us to grow high-quality diamonds more rapidly and in a cheaper way, along with having the same sparkle, clarity, and aesthetic of an Earthmined diamond.

Are Lab-Grown Diamonds Real?

Lab-grown diamonds test positive on a diamond meter since they’re made of crystallized carbon, just like mined diamonds are. They are equal to Earth-mined diamonds in quality, durability, and appearance.

Should I Buy A Lab-Grown Diamond?

With people becoming more aware of the high environmental and humanitarian costs of a mined diamonds, lab-grown diamonds are the perfect substitute. They add sparkle to every moment of your life, beat it from a beach trip to a corporate party. All in all, they’re perfect.

How Are Lab-Grown Diamonds Made?

There are two ways to grow a diamond. Both involve starting with the “seed” of another diamond. The first-ever lab diamond was made using the High Pressure-High Temperature (HPHT) method, and more recently came the Chemical Vapor Deposition (CVD) method.

The CVD Method

CVD stands for Carbon Vapor Deposition.

During the CVD process, the diamond ‘seed’ is placed in a vacuum chamber filled with gases that are heavy in carbon and is then heated to well over 1,000 degrees. The intense heat then turns the gases into “plasma”. The plasma then helps build the layers of the diamonds, making them into the gemstones that we know and love so well.

We use Lab-Grown Diamonds grown through CVD Method.

The HPHT Method

HPHT stands for High Pressure High Temperature.

HPHT is a technique developed in the 1950s to create beautiful and lucrative diamonds. It starts with a small diamond seed placed into pure carbon. This seed is then exposed to intense pressure and heat which leads it to form a diamond around the seed. The substance is then cooled down to form a rough diamond ready to the cut, polished, and set into jewelry

Many jewelers use lab-grown diamonds through HPHT method, it’s not the one Stefee uses as we believe that CVD is a more efficient production technology.

Certified Quality

Our lab-grown diamonds are graded using the standard 4Cs method of assessing diamond quality. We provide Gemological Institute of America and International Gemological Institute (IGI) certification for diamonds larger than 1.00 carat.

Our Conscious Diamond Journey

We believe the beauty of a diamond is measured not only in its extraordinary appearance, but by the care it is treated with. We work to ensure responsible practices every step of the way. From the moment a Stefee diamond is grown, it takes a remarkable trip, passing from the expert hands of one master craftsperson to another until it’s worthy of our standards .
